Frequently Asked Questions
How do I create an account?
Download Portal from the App Store and open the app. Tap "Get Started" and enter your phone number. We'll send you a verification code via SMS. Once verified, create your username and you're ready to go!
Why do videos expire after 48 hours?
Portal is designed for real, in-the-moment content. The 48-hour expiration encourages authentic sharing without the pressure of a permanent record. It keeps the feed fresh and focused on what's happening right now in your city.
How do leaderboards work?
Portal ranks creators based on engagement (likes, comments, shares) within their city, state, and nationally. Rankings update in real-time. The more people engage with your content, the higher you climb. Post consistently to maintain your position!
What is a streak?
A streak tracks how many consecutive days you've posted. Post at least one video per day to keep your streak alive. Longer streaks can boost your visibility in the feed. If you miss a day, your streak resets to zero.
How do I verify my college?
If your college has a Portal, you can verify using your .edu email address or by being physically on campus. Go to Settings > Verify College and follow the prompts. Once verified, you'll have access to your college's exclusive feed.
Why can't I post in my city?
Some cities are on a waitlist until enough people sign up. You can still browse content from other cities while your city is waitlisted. Invite friends to help activate your city faster!
How do I delete my account?
Go to Settings > Account > Delete Account. This will permanently delete your profile, all your videos (immediately, not waiting 48h), comments, and messages. This action cannot be undone.
How do I report inappropriate content?
Tap the "..." menu on any video and select "Report". Choose the reason for reporting and submit. Our team reviews all reports and takes action on violations. For urgent safety concerns, email [email protected] directly.
Can I recover a deleted video?
No. Once a video is deleted (either manually or after 48-hour expiration), it's permanently removed from our servers and cannot be recovered. Save any videos you want to keep before they expire.
Why isn't my location accurate?
Portal uses your device's location services. Make sure location permissions are enabled for Portal in your device settings. If you're on WiFi, try switching to cellular for a more accurate location. VPNs can also affect location accuracy.
