What is a location-based social app?
Short answer
A location-based social app organizes posts by where they were taken, so you see content from your city, campus or neighborhood instead of a global feed.
What to know
- Examples include Yik Yak (anonymous posts nearby) and Portal (live video and photos by city).
- Location makes content more useful and harder to fake.
- Good apps show a city, not your exact address.
Where Portal fits
Portal is a free iPhone social app where every photo and video must be captured live in the app, with no uploads and no AI content allowed. Learn more about Portal.
