Challenge rules & prizes

Portal runs school competitions (“Clashes”) and small weekly missions with real prizes. Here’s exactly how they work. No purchase necessary — Portal is free, and posting is the only way to play.

Rules as of October 2026

Who can participate

Anyone with a Portal account can post. School competitions count posts from school-verified students only. Employees of Portal Tech, Inc. and their household members can’t win prizes. You must follow Portal’s community guidelines — posts that break them don’t count and can disqualify an entry.

How winners are decided

Clash standings come from the in-app scoreboard (per-student scoring, so school size doesn’t decide it). Weekly missions are judged on the stated goal of that mission — announced on the official school accounts — and judged by Portal. Judges’ decisions are final. Scores affected by spam, bots or fake engagement are removed; Portal’s anti-abuse systems decide what counts.

Prizes

Weekly mission prizes are typically $25 digital gift cards; Clash winners earn the Challenge Champion trophy in-app, plus any announced prize. Prizes have no cash alternative and can’t be transferred.

How winners get prizes

Winners are announced by handle only — never by name or school — and contacted through their Portal account. If a winner is under 18, the prize is delivered through a parent or guardian: we ask the winner to have a parent email support@portalapp.org from their own address to claim it. Unclaimed prizes expire after 14 days and roll to the next mission.

Privacy

Claiming a prize never requires more than an email from a parent/guardian. We don’t collect addresses, we don’t post winners’ names, and claim emails are used only to deliver the prize.

The boring-but-honest part

Portal may adjust mission schedules or prizes if something breaks, and may update these rules between (never during) a competition window. These challenges are run by Portal Tech, Inc., Austin, Texas, and aren’t sponsored by or affiliated with any school or school district. Questions: support@portalapp.org.
