Can you trust videos you see online anymore?
Short answer
Not by looks alone. In 2026 tests, people and detection tools performed close to chance on videos from the newest AI models, so trust now depends on where a video came from and how it was captured.
What to know
- Treat viral, emotional videos as unverified until confirmed.
- Check the original source and other coverage.
- Trust platforms where video must be filmed live over those that allow any upload.
