Boerne vs Champion: Greyhounds and Chargers Settle It on Portal (Oct 19–31)

By PortalPublished Oct 3, 20266 min read

Boerne High and Champion High share a town, a school district and a lot of trash talk. From October 19 to 31, the Greyhounds and Chargers go head to head on Portal, and the scoreboard is fair to both sides.

Boerne has two public high schools, one town, and a whole lot of opinions about which one is better. From October 19 to 31, 2026, you get to settle it with something other than a group chat argument.

Two schools, one town

Both schools are part of Boerne ISD, and for a long time there was only one of them.

  • Boerne High School is the Greyhounds. Purple, white and gray. It was the only high school in town for decades.
  • Boerne-Samuel V. Champion High School is the Chargers. Navy and silver. It opened in 2008, when it split off from Boerne High.

Here's the part a lot of people don't know: Champion is named after Samuel V. Champion, a Boerne High graduate who taught and coached there and later served as its principal for years. So the "new" school carries the name of one of the old school's own. That's either very wholesome or the most Boerne rivalry setup possible. Probably both.

Why it actually feels like a rivalry

When Champion opened, the town got split down the middle. Same grocery stores, same Main Street, same youth leagues, different hallways. Plenty of families have kids at both.

For years after the split, the two schools didn't share a district much. That changed when the 2024 UIL realignment put Boerne High and Champion in the same district for sports other than football. The district's athletic director called it a great day for Boerne ISD, and since then the Greyhounds and Chargers have met in district play in sports outside of football.

We're not going to recap scores or crown anyone the all-time winner. Ask your friends, they'll tell you. Loudly. The point is simple: these two schools know each other, and that's what makes it fun.

What the Boerne vs Champion Clash is

The Clash is a school vs school competition on Portal, a camera-only social app. It runs October 19 to 31, 2026, and it's head to head: Greyhounds vs Chargers.

  • Every real post counts. Each post by a verified student adds to their school's score.
  • Streaks multiply. Post day after day and your contribution grows.
  • 1v1 challenges count too. Challenge a friend to most likes or views in 24 hours, 3 days or a week, and it feeds your school's total.
  • The winning school's posters get the Challenge Champion trophy on their profile. Permanently.

Follow the live score on the Clash page, and see each school's page at /boerne-high and /champion-high.

Per-student scoring: the smaller school can absolutely win

If the Clash just added up raw totals, the bigger school would have a head start before anyone posted anything. That's boring.

So the Clash is scored per student. Your school's score reflects how active its students are, not just how many students it has. In plain terms:

  • Fifty students posting every day can beat a hundred who post once.
  • Your streak matters more than your school's enrollment.
  • Getting your friends verified and posting moves the number more than anything else.

Whichever school is smaller this year, it's not the underdog. Effort is the whole game.

Weekly missions and prizes

On top of the main Clash, there are weekly missions:

  • Best post of the day
  • Longest streak
  • Top recruiter (the person who gets the most classmates on and posting)

Mission winners get real prizes, typically $25 digital gift cards. Winners are announced by handle only, never by full name. If you're under 18 and you win, you claim through a parent or guardian. Full rules are on the prizes page.

How to rep your school in the Clash

  1. Download Portal and make an account.
  2. Verify your school in the app. Only verified students count toward the score.
  3. Post something real every day. Portal is camera-only, so everything is filmed live in the app. No uploads, no filters, no AI.
  4. Protect your streak. Even a quick clip of the parking lot at 7:40 a.m. keeps it alive.
  5. Challenge someone 1v1. Bonus points if they go to the other school.
  6. Recruit. Every friend who joins and posts raises your school's per-student number.

Keep it a good rivalry

Rivalries are fun until someone makes it weird. A few ground rules worth following:

  • Roast the mascot, not a person.
  • Don't film people who don't want to be filmed.
  • Don't post your school name, your address or anything that pinpoints where you are. Portal shows only the city on posts, and your school is never shown publicly.
  • Teachers, coaches and staff aren't content without their OK.

The fine print, said clearly

The Boerne vs Champion Clash is run by Portal Tech, Inc. It is not sponsored by, endorsed by or affiliated with Boerne High School, Champion High School or Boerne ISD. School names are used only to describe which students are competing.

Student-only posts are visible only to other verified students, and the feed is designed so adults aren't in it. Adults can't DM students on Portal. Parents can learn more on the parents page.

So, Greyhounds or Chargers?

Boerne already argues about this. Now there's a scoreboard. Portal was built for exactly this kind of thing: real moments from real students, posts that disappear from the feed after 48 hours, and leaderboards for your school, your city and beyond.

Thirteen days. Two schools. One trophy that stays on your profile forever. Pick a side.
