Things to Do in Boerne for Teens: The Not-Boring 2026 Guide

By PortalPublished Oct 3, 20266 min read

Boerne is small, but it's not boring if you know where to go. Here's a teen-tested list of places in and around Boerne, TX, from the Hill Country Mile to a cave that stays 66 degrees all year.

Boerne gets called a small town a lot. Fair. But if you're a teen who's "bored," you probably just haven't been to half of these yet. Here's the list, with zero tourist fluff.

Walk the Hill Country Mile

The Hill Country Mile is Boerne's walkable downtown along Main Street, with more than 80 shops and spots packed into it. It's the obvious answer for a reason.

  • Window shop and wander. Old stone buildings, some dating back to the 1800s, and a lot of weird little stores.
  • Grab a treat. Blithe Creamery does ice cream sandwiches inside Shoppes at 222 on South Main. Bear Moon Bakery, also on South Main, is a longtime local bakery and cafe.
  • Find the courthouse. The Kendall County Courthouse dates to 1870 and makes a solid backdrop for photos.

Best time: late afternoon, when the light hits the buildings and it isn't 100 degrees.

Hang at Main Plaza

Main Plaza is the park right in the middle of the Mile, and it's where a lot of town events happen. Boerne Market Days has been held there, with vendors, food and live music, so check the city's event calendar before you go.

It's also the default meetup spot. "Meet at the plaza" works for basically everyone.

Get outside at the Cibolo Nature Center

The Cibolo Nature Center has more than six miles of trails through a few completely different landscapes:

  • Marshland Trail: a boardwalk through a restored marsh. Easy, flat and good for a slow walk-and-talk.
  • Cibolo Creek Trail: along the creek under big cypress trees.
  • Prairie Trail: restored tall-grass prairie that looks great at golden hour.
  • Woodlands Trail: oak and juniper, where you might spot deer.

Trails are open 8 a.m. to dusk every day, and there's no entry fee (donations welcome). Bring water and bug spray. Seriously, the bug spray.

Paddle or play disc golf at Boerne City Lake Park

Boerne City Lake Park is underrated for a group day:

  • Kayaking on the lake. No motorized boats are allowed, so it stays calm.
  • An 18-hole disc golf course. Cheap, competitive and somehow always turns into a rivalry.
  • Walking trails, a volleyball court and fishing (fishing needs a Texas fishing license).

Heads up: Boerne residents get in free, and there's a daily entry fee for non-residents that's higher on weekends. Check the city's park page before you go.

Go underground at Cave Without a Name

About 11 miles northeast of Boerne, Cave Without a Name is a real living cave with stalactites, stalagmites and flowstone formations. Guided tours run about an hour.

  • It stays around 66 degrees year-round, which makes it the best escape from a Texas August.
  • They also host concerts in an underground room they call the Throne Room. Live music in a cave is a flex.
  • Tour sizes are limited, so book ahead instead of just showing up.

Walk the Cibolo trail at River Road Park

River Road Park sits along Cibolo Creek near the Mile. There's a paved walking and biking path with art sculptures along it, plus a fishing pier and shade trees. You'll probably see turtles and ducks. Low effort, high vibes.

Free and cheap ideas when you're broke

Not every hangout needs a budget. A few that cost nothing or close to it:

  • Friday night football, which is one of the cheapest shows in town. (Got ideas for what to post? See game day post ideas.)
  • A sunset walk on the Marshland boardwalk.
  • A picnic at Main Plaza or River Road Park.
  • A disc golf tournament with your friends, loser buys the ice cream.
  • A photo walk down Main Street where everyone films one thing they've never noticed before.

Things coming up on the Boerne calendar

  • Dickens on Main takes over the Hill Country Mile on Thanksgiving weekend with lights, live music and holiday shopping. It gets packed, so go early.
  • Homecoming and spirit weeks at both high schools. Need outfit ideas? Here are 25+ spirit week ideas.
  • The Boerne vs Champion Clash on Portal, October 19 to 31, 2026. More on that below.

Turn your Boerne weekend into points

Here's the bonus: all of this is perfect content. Portal is a camera-only app, so you film live inside the app. No uploads, no filters, no AI. Posts stay in the feed for 48 hours, then save to your memories.

From October 19 to 31, every real post by a verified Boerne High or Champion student counts toward their school in the Boerne vs Champion Clash. Scoring is per student, and streaks multiply, so a cave tour on Saturday and a lake day on Sunday both help.

A few smart habits while you post:

  • Portal shows the city a post was filmed in, never an address. Keep it that way by not saying exactly where you are or where you live in your clips.
  • Don't name your school in public posts.
  • Ask before you film people who aren't your friends.

Why post it on Portal?

Most apps make Boerne look like everywhere else. On Portal, the Boerne city feed is just what people around here actually filmed this week. Students who verify their school get a student-only layer that only other verified students can see, designed so adults aren't in that feed.

So go do something this weekend. Then post it, and help your school while you're at it. See the live score on the Clash page.
